BB14: What the Puck?

So, yesterday JoJo and Joe started Smokegate whose conclusion is exactly what it would have been: frootless. JoJo got wind that Joe wasn't going to throw her a vote and took her packs back; the rest of the house found out about it to their unending amusement; Joe wavered between throwing her a vote and keeping the smokes, or not, concluding in his discussion at around 11:55 pm with Frank when he finally decided that he would only trade the smokes for memorabilia, not for a vote. Much ado about nada.

The bottom line? JoJo is going home despite her desperate efforts to try to get Joe, Ashley, Jenn and Ian to flip on the coaches' plan to get her out. Let me take this occasion to say, once again, that this coaches' twist is lamer than playing hockey with a celery stick. Many decisions have been made so far in the game that suit the coaches not the players.

Stupid Coaching #1: Putting up Kara on the block with the sole intention to weaken Dan, but leaving strong threats in the game for the players.

Stupid Coaching #2: Evicting Kara while leaving Frank in the game. It left Dan with one player, but what did that do for the rest of the players? Willie got a permanent time out and the rest of his team, while trying to defect and disassociate, got huge targets on their backs with one more than likely getting checked out of the game.

Stupid Coaching #3: Britney constantly fired Willie up with useless suppositions and inflammatory information that resulted in his expulsion. She was the one who listened to Willie's bright idea to team up with Frank, pushing for Kara to leave the game, leaving her players defenseless.

Stupid Coaching #4: Janelle egged her players on to get on the Frank train and evict Kara when she was the one all along wanting Frank out. While this resulted in a threat down, it boosted Frank who is not only a physical threat but has a fantastic social game compared to Willie.

Stupid Coaching #5: Janelle, out of boredom, decided to tell Danielle around 9:42 PM BBT last night that JoJo has been going around telling everyone that Danielle is fat. Whether this was said or not, telling Danielle had no game purpose. It only served to target Danielle's insecurities and hurt the kid. Janelle was trying to egg Danielle on to confront JoJo, but Danielle didn't bite. What would have been achieved if she had? Any ensuing scrap could have easily backfired on Danielle, training the eviction target on her. Janelle has no interest in keeping JoJo, but it might very well have done that, like Willie's explosion on Frank served to turn the house against Willie.

Stupid Coaching #6: Not preventing their players who are trying to stay in the game to campaign for votes by saying counterproductive things like: "I deserve to stay in the game not xyz" Nobody deserves to be in the game. They're either chosen or not and if they stay is solely up to them. "This house will be so boring without me." coupled with "America loves me/us" This is highly egotistical and in most cases inaccurate. "I will do anything to stay in the game." Subtext: like lie to your face which is what I'm doing right now or go ahead and tell others the same thing. JoJo was all over the map and sounded desperate yesterday; and even if she made some solid points about keeping her, they were lost in the mess of a delivery.

Speaking of coaching, they got a new game to practice.

Finally the coaches served their role by helping their team members with the game. This is the first time they have all actually done what they were meant to do: reinforce strengths, help with weaknesses, explain strategy and support their players, not stir up drama, create paranoia, and insert their ulterior motives.

And while we're on the subject, maybe if production does this again, (and I seriously hope with all my BB heart that they stop this madness and go back to old school BB) they should pick coaches based on their ability to coach and their proven talents in the game, not their fan popularity. Wait. What am I saying? It's about ratings and money, not about the game.

Stay tuned! :)
