BB14: The Proof is in Pork Rinds

So I watched last night's show a couple of times, and I figured out why they cut the feeds for so long during Williegate. They didn't want witnesses to cry foul during their less-than-stellar editing last night.

Let's talk about what they included in the show. Was it necessary at this point in time or in the story continuity to devote time to Ian's and Ashley's "date"? Would it not have made more sense to give a back story on Ashley's disembarking the Willie train? Would it not have made sense to include Joe's bragging that he could get Willie to blow, moments before the altercation? Should they not have included his attempt to go to DR before this all happened, but was denied?

Let's talk about the 53 cameras that are rolling 24/7 in the house, whether they plug them onto the live feeds or not. They had that altercation between Joe and Willie from many angles, yet, what did they choose to show? Willie running to the bathroom from the Arcade camera's perspective. The actual confrontation between them from a jacked up angle, showing the chest butt or head butt almost off camera. The editing focused on the other players' reactions while at the same time almost minimizing the actual act of violence. Or did they minimize it? Or was it blown out of proportion by the house guests? It's certainly plausible given their dislike of Willie.

When I saw it the first time, my initial thought was, "That was it?" Jordan chest bumped Russell a lot worse in season 11, but she wasn't expelled. Joe didn't even break skin, so how bad could it have been? Then I came back to my senses. We feedsters were rendered blind, so we couldn't cry foul, leaving us TV onlies for this incident, at the mercy of editing. My other reaction was why did Joe come unscathed out of this? He totally instigated this incident, pushing buttons, knowing the result. At he very least a penalty nomination would have been cool. Sure, this is a game that's fueled by scheming, backstabbing, lying and drama, but where's the limit?

Let's talk about Willie's expulsion. Was it me or was it less dramatic and less satisfying than Chima's? "Willie go to the back room." And he went, without protest. Anti-climactic much? Why not show the announcement telling the others to gather in various areas of the house away from Willie? We know it happened. Then the cherry on top, when they called Willie to DR. "I need you to come this way." And he was gone. What? Finally, Grodner's announcement to the house was truncated by the editing. "Violence will not be tolerated in the Big Brother House. The game goes on." That's right, but the violence that was shown last night and that related in detail by Ian on the feeds Friday night did not correlate. In fact, there were a lot of discrepancies. Willie's story seems to corroborate the show's edit; but Ian's retelling of the events from an eye-witness perspective doesn't.

The last little footage showed the house guests after Grodner's announcement. Britney was clearly distraught, and rightfully so, because she played a big part in the fiasco. Ian stated in his DR that Willie will be known for the most disgraceful exit (my words) which, again, was not supported in intensity on the show. Joe's DR was almost apologetic. Did he feel guilt for contributing to this flustercluck? But that last frame that stuck with me was Frank on the sofa, laughing. My initial reaction to seeing this was, "What a tool." Yet, I know he isn't a tool. Was this intentional or did it slip between the cracks of a 48 scrambled edit?

And what was with the eerie music they used as a background to the whole incident, which was shorter than an average bout of sneezing and certainly not as dramatic

Was production trying to protect Willie, even after this whole debacle? This is a difficult question to answer because of the conflicting story edits. For example, they didn't show Willie shaking Frank's hand and congratulating him before leaving HoH after the reveal. That whole segment showed him as a completely bad sport, which he is, but not then. He stayed and mingled a lot longer. He did not leave in a huff. They attempted to show some of the reasons he felt his back was up against the wall, namely his coach's and team's disassociation of him, but there were too many holes in the story.

The proof was in the pudding. I was watching the show with my TV only friend, gauging her reaction. She felt sorry for Willie because everyone, especially his coach, turned their backs on him. There we go. She felt sorry for Willie, and that his expulsion made no sense. I had to rethink my whole impression of the events given that I really didn't know much more than her about this particular incident, because we were kept in the dark.

On the Feeds:
What did you miss on the feeds last night? A lot of sex talk. Nothing you can't see on the Playboy Channel or Girls Gone Wild.  Some boccie ball.
  • Mike and Dan connected for some game talk, solidifying their alliance, their strategy, their insight on the various players/coaches left and the future moves in the game starting at 9:20 PM BBT. Nothing revolutionary was revealed during this conversation but it would be an interesting one to catch, to see how their minds work and the details they notice.
  • Wil and Joe connected to discuss how they need to get Frank out around 11:40 PM BBT.
  • Janelle had a team meeting to confirm getting JoJo out, shortly after midnight BBT.
  • Later, around 1:35 AM BBT, Shane told JoJo that he will pitch Wil going up instead of Danielle to Frank, telling him that the 3 of them can work together to anniliate Janelle's team. Is this truth or a smoke screen?
Today is the PoV Ceremony. We'll see how these decisions stick.

9:15 AM BBT: Shane keeps his word to JoJo and broaches the idea of replacing him with Wil instead of Danielle. Frank is not ready to break his alliance with Janelle and lose those votes. Shane counters that by putting up Wil, Frank will have Danielle's vote and JoJo fierce loyalty and competitiveness. Frank doesn't seem to be ready to make this move. Shane keeps gently pushing. Frank's not biting so the conversation continues to how Shane thinks how much "America" likes them, trying to subtly cement his connection with Frank and throw some doubt on Janelle's team.

Interesting to note that, during this conversation, Mike came out, but Frank asked him to give them some time. Mike went to lie on the hammock alone. The ensuing conversation between him and Frank should be fun!

9:52 AM BBT: Mike and Frank finally have some time alone. Frank fills him in on everything Shane said. Mike's answer? He has no idea how to play the game. Mike wishes Shane would keep his mouth shut. He tells Frank that everyone will state their case, but it doesn't mean anything. Then comments that production will love that conversation because it creates suspense for their show. Flippy intervenes momentarily. Frank tells him about Shane thinking that Danielle would not put up anyone from Mike's team if she were to win HoH and Mike scoffs at the idea that she would even win. He likes though that Shane has no idea they talked to Danielle. He wants those two not to be able to compare notes.

10:45 AM BBT: Trivia. We'll know soon what's stuck. :)
11:44 AM BBT: Feeds back. Danielle was the replacement.

While JoJo is trying to arrange a make-out session with Shane, saying how much America loves them(there's a blog coming about those kinds of misconceptions soon)and how she's there to give people "hope" (insert eye roll), Danielle is cozying up with Janelle and Ashley (aka votes)

12:45 PM BBT: Britney to JoJo: If you get voted out it's 100% personal. If you stay in the house, it's game... Say what? Britney tells her to stop talking game with anyone, to stay away from Shane, to not talk sex with Ian and to not say anything about Danielle.

Meanwhile, Danielle is putting some time in with Ian listening to his knowledge of chemical compounds.

An hour later, JoJo is talking to Shane alone in the bathroom, saying she could teach Ian about sex. You can lead a horse to pork rinds, but you can't make it eat...

2:40 PM BBT: Joe and Frank are up in HoH, patting themselves on the back on what a great game they've been playing. Now, who's being cocky like you just accused Shane about being for the two PoV competitions that he won... Joe is trying to shift the upcoming targets on "floaters" like Jenn and Ashley who have been loyal to their teams. Ummm, Joe what have you done in this game? Well other than instigate crap and float with the power. Yeah, I thought so... Oh and also, stop using floater in the wrong way! Oh! And don't be dissing Rachel either. She would tell you to grab your life vest! ;)

4:28 PM BBT: JoJo eats her preseason interview words and says she now respects Rachel more, going as far as saying she would have made a great coach.

6:18 PM BBT: Janelle and Dan have a game of chess and strategy. Janelle tells him Danielle is safe and she's not lying at this point. She asks whether he thinks the coaches will enter the game and he says he thinks so., but they will be targeted immediately. Dan is more than likely simply trying to ensure his and Danielle's safety in saying this. The implied message is, they will need him should the coaches be dumped into the game.

6:55 PM BBT: Frank fills Mike in on his conversation with Joe. Mike says Joe has no idea how much game there's left, how many twists and unexpected circumstances. A little while later, after Frank leaves, and Dan's game ends with Janelle, he pops in and Mike fills him in about the game shenanigans.

Stay tuned! :)
